I’ve been a proud One Percent for the Planet business member since 2021, meaning 1% of my gross income goes directly to environmental and social projects via One Percent for the Planet.
It’s such an exciting community to be a part of, so naturally, I was over the moon to be asked to run a paper-cutting workshop for their first two day regional event – Sessions: London (partnered with PieFactory). The purpose of Sessions: London was to foster new connections and activate the local region in One Percent for the Planet’s network.
My paper turtle workshop was held at X+Why, Whitechapel 7/10/22. It was a part of the ‘Moments’ sessions which were formulated to offer grounding experiences for intentional connection through mindfulness-based activities. This was a low waste workshop which used locally made tools and reused surplus paper stock, all off-cuts were recycled. Here’s what we used below:
Paper – sourced from Bristol based Children’s Scrapstore (A large warehouse full of varied, colourful and abundant scrap materials. All of the scrap is surplus stock collected directly from local businesses and industry).
Craft Knives – 100% steel, made by Swan Morton, a Sheffield based scalpel manufacturer.
Glue – UHU glue was decanted into blunt syringes for precision glueing meaning we used minimal glue.

There were a number of workshops, presentations, discussions and Q&A’s from many exciting charities, partners, businesses and organisations including – Trash Free Trails, She Changes Climate, Bright Green Future, Bikmo, Grain Sustainability, IllustrationX, Spitalfields City Farm, Protect Our Winters UK, Springwise, Pawprint, Twio, Betternotstop.
The event was uplifting, thoughtful and a joy to be a part of! With so many minds coming together there were lots of brains to pick!
