Seasonal Art Pieces

I was contacted by Sally, who, along with her partner, built a beautiful eco house in the heart of the New Forest. Her home is surrounded by a medieval deer park, rich woodland in the distance, wildlife, and ever-changing seasonal life. From the very beginning, I was inspired by how closely she observed and celebrated the plants, fungi, and animals that appeared around her home throughout the year.

Sally commissioned me to create four artworks, each one capturing the essence of a different season. The focus was on reflecting the natural shifts she noticed in her surroundings – the plants and fungi that emerge, the animals that pass through, and the unique atmosphere of each time of year. Together, the pieces form a celebration of her local landscape and the rhythms of the seasons.

To bring the series to life, I designed each artwork as a layered composition, with up to four paper layers creating depth and detail. I wanted to celebrate the distinct colours of each season – bright, delicate, or earthy as the months change – while tying the series together through a consistent circular window motif. This circular frame became a way to invite the viewer to look more closely into the seasonal worlds, much like glimpsing nature through the windows of Sally’s eco home.
